Data on the French market for rail passenger and freight transport

Description

Content of the dataset: this includes the main indicators relating to the characteristics of the national rail network (NRF) and rail transport markets (supply, demand, economic and financial performance of passenger and freight transport activities). It also contains detailed data on the quality of service of rail transport. The data are updated on an annual basis and are classified according to the following themes: — Characteristics of the national rail network (NRF); — State of play of rail freight transport (trafficking, economic performance, quality of service); — State of play of rail passenger transport by transport service (supply, demand, economic performance); — Quality of service of rail passenger transport; — State of play of the Regional Conventional Services (TER); These data are updated annually. By Law No. 2015-990 of 6 August 2015 for growth, activity and equal economic opportunities, the Transport Regulatory Authority (formerly Arafer) was given the power to collect information allowing it to collect data, carry out expertise and carry out necessary studies and information actions in the rail and urban public transport sector in the Ile-de-France region. In particular, it may, by reasoned decision, provide for the regular transmission of information by infrastructure managers, service infrastructure operators, railway undertakings, SNCF, the Paris Autonomous Transport Authority, the operators of urban public transport services in the Ile-de-France region on the networks of which the Paris Autonomous Transport Authority performs the task of technical manager and Ile-de-France Mobilités (Articles L. 2132-7 and L. 2132-7-1 of the Transport Code)(https://www.legifrance.gouv.fr/affichCodeArticle.do?idArticle=LEGIARTI000038884781&cidTexte=LEGITEXT000023086525&dateTexte=20191001). On the basis of the data collected from railway undertakings and the infrastructure manager, the Transport and Mobility Observatory of the Transport Regulatory Authority draws up an annual review of the activity of rail passenger and freight transport ([available on the Authority’s website](https://www.autorite-transports.fr/observatoire-des-transports/marche-du-transport-ferroviaire/)) to inform all stakeholders (public decision makers, industry professionals, media) and customers of these transport services.
