Position of the coastline of the sandy coastline of the Communauté d'Agglomération Royan Atlantique (CARA) between 1999 and 2023
Description
The coastline is by definition a curve/line representing the intersection of land and sea in the case of an astronomical high tide of coefficient 120 and under normal weather conditions (no offshore wind, no atmospheric depression likely to raise sea level). As part of its Territorial Beach Plan, every spring, the CARA carries out campaigns to measure its sandy coastline in order to know its evolution. Topographic surveys are performed using a submetric precision GPS (<1m). Field trips are made at low seas on tidal coefficients greater than 100. To remain faithful to the protocol established in the 2000s and to be in line with the reality on the ground, it was decided to follow the coast by taking as a reference the leashes of the highest seas.
