Demarcations of urban areas in implementation of RSV condition June 2023

Description

This map shows the demarcations of the urban areas in implementation of the Spatial Structure Plan Flanders (RSV). This demarcation is done on the basis of the final adoption of spatial implementation plans (RUP). According to the division of tasks of the RSV, the metropolitan and regional metropolitan areas are demarcated by the Flemish region (via regional RUP), and the metropolitan areas by the provinces (via provincial RUP). This map makes a classification by type of urban area based on RUP that have been definitively approved. These demarcations have a policy value. They indicate in which areas a spatial policy for urban areas is in force. Outside these areas, a spatial policy for outside areas is being pursued. These demarcated areas therefore provide information on the policy desirability of whether or not each parcel in Flanders is urban. The demarcations were made following a planning process involving local and supra-local actors, and not via a computational algorithm.
