Thematic web collections by the BnF

Description

As part of its heritage mission of [legal deposit of the internet] (https://www.bnf.fr/en/centre-d-aide/depot-legal-des-sites-web-mode-demploi), the Bibliothèque nationale de France regularly collects a sample of the French web, consisting of large collections (annual and non-selective) and targeted collections. These include two types of collection: les collectes « projets », souvent menées en coopération avec des partenaires (bibliothèques, centres de recherche, associations), et caractérisées par leur sensibilité plus forte à l’actualité ainsi que par leur transversalité ou spécificité thématique ; les collectes « courantes », pour les sites de référence sur un champ disciplinaire donné, réalisées depuis 2011 à des fréquences variables (de « une fois par semaine » à « une fois par an »). In partnership with the BnF, five libraries (Bibliothèque nationale et universitaire de Strasbourg, Médiathèque centrale d'Agglomération Emile Zola de Montpellier, Bibliothèque municipale de Nancy, Bibliothèque de l'Alcazar à Marseille and Bibliothèque départementale de la Réunion) have a current collection, respectively on Alsatiques, Languedoc-Roussillon, Lorraine, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur and Réunion. All archived sites are [accessible](https://www.bnf.fr/en/archives-de-linternet) by researchers in [the reading rooms of the BnF and the printer's legal deposit libraries](https://umap.openstreetmap.fr/en/map/ou-consulter-les-archives-de-linternet-de-la-bnf_73737#6/46.362/3.450). For each current collection and/or project, seven CVS tables are made available: the list of URLs (of sites, blogs, social media accounts) collected from 2011 to 2016 and the lists of those collected in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022. These csv tables are grouped into 23 compressed files. Each file contains the csv tables of a thematic current collection and the csv of the project collections directly related to that current collection, as well as a text file describing the collections. Each URL is accompanied by elements of description (theme, keywords, additional descriptive information) and technical parameters on its collection (frequency, history of the URL). Files are encoded in UTF-8. In total, this dataset consists of 191 csv tables containing more than 110,000 URLs collected since 2011.
