The role of CHUs in higher education and medical research
Description
University Hospitals (UHCs) are health institutions that are bound by agreement with a university and have a triple mission of care, training and research. The Court examines their contribution in the field of medical research and training of doctors. The CHUs perform this triple mission unevenly and the French hospital-university model, which dates from 1958, shows signs of shortness of breath. The Court issues four guidelines broken down into 15 recommendations aimed in particular at concentrating resources on research centres with international visibility, improving national management of hospital-university activities, strengthening the strategic coordination of actors at regional and local level, and setting up monitoring of the activity of hospital-university staff.
