Ground map of Lower Saxony 1 : 50 000 - Dike lines in the coastal Holocene
Description
The depiction of the dyke lines in the coastal Holocene was developed by Lower Saxony in the course of processing the soil map on a scale of 1:50,000. They are of fundamental importance for the landscape and soil development in the march and sometimes also form soil boundaries. The data were based on various historical representations or maps (see below). In the present stage of expansion, only the location of the dikes is depicted. As far as possible, the location was adapted to today's topography. In the map bases before 1800, the particular difficulty was in rediscovering the dike lines and adapting them to today's topography. The age of the dikes or dike chambers or the functions of the dikes (summer, winter dikes), external or rear dikes (Achterndiek) are not attributed in this stage of development.
