Public support for Euro 2016 in France
Description
By hosting Euro 2016, France wanted to show its ability to organise one of the biggest international sports competitions. The two challenges of providing sports and transport equipment adapted to the needs of the tournament and the smooth running of the event were met smoothly, hailed as very satisfactory, in a context that had become critical from a security point of view.
Without seeking to reassess the economic impact of this event, the Court and the six regional audit chambers concerned focused their investigations on the arrangements for implementing the public support necessary for the competition and on the financial risks that the management of enlarged and renovated sports venues poses to local authorities.
The report consists of a general summary and territorial workbooks detailing, for each of the ten host cities, the conditions for financing and operating the Euro 2016 stadiums.
