Description
This map of the benthic communities of the Western Channel off the north coasts of Brittany, in the region of Roscoff , is picked up from the thesis of Louis Cabioch (1968, Roscoff Biological Station) : "Contribution à la connaissance des peuplements benthiques de la Manche occidentale", published in 1968 in the "Cahiers de biologie marine, tome IX, cahier 5 supll.".
Two maps representing the distribution of the benthic communities and the tiers were in particular produced in the document cited above : a map (scale = 1:180000) entitled "R├®partition g├®n├®rale des peuplements benthiques pr├®littoraux" and a map (scale = 1:50 000) (figure 45) entitled "R├®partition des peuplements benthiques dans la r├®gion de Roscoff" which is that described here.
This map was digitized in 2003, as part of the REBENT programme, i.e. the surveying network for the benthic fauna and flora.
The harmonization with the EUNIS typology was made in 2006, as part of the REBENT and Interreg-MESH programmes.
