Collective contracts, which cover employees of companies or professional branches, gain ground on individual contracts: they account for 44 % of contributions collected in 2015 compared to 40 % in 2007.
A quarter of insurance organisations exclusively manage individual contracts in 2015 and could be severely affected by the generalisation of supplementary corporate health as of 1 January 2016.
In 2015, as a group, 85 % of health contributions are donated to insured persons in the form of benefits compared to 75 % individually. This can be explained in particular by lower contract management costs in collectives.
Every year since 2009, individual health contracts are on average surplus while collective contracts are on average loss-making. The generalisation of supplementary corporate health will therefore have still uncertain consequences for the financial soundness of insurance organisations.
