Reasons for Darm Plus – CED initiative Austria!
Patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) such as Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis spend a lot of time managing their condition, which is considered incurable. From the first symptom to the diagnosis and initiation of treatment, it often takes more than three years. With the available therapies, pain, poor quality of life, sick leave, surgery and permanent damage to the intestine could be reduced or avoided. A far-reaching educational process is needed to create greater awareness of gut health. Despite widespread use, few associate anything with the term CED and are thus unaware of the poor care and daily problems of those affected by this chronically progressing disease. CED requires a joint, interdisciplinary health and social policy effort to ensure a uniform care and quality structure throughout Austria.
