Local public finances (2015)
Description
The Court of Auditors publishes a report on the financial situation and management of local and regional authorities and their public institutions, resulting from joint work with the regional chambers of accounts. Local public administrations (Apul), which account for 20 % of public expenditure, are affected by the fulfilment of France’s European commitments to correct its public accounts. In 2015, faced with the decline in state financial assistance, local authorities, taken as a whole, sought to slow down their spending rather than resort to fiscal leverage. However, faced with a stronger financial constraint in 2016, local authorities need to scale up their management efforts in order to avoid a deterioration of their financial situation.
