Local Public Finances (2015)
Description
The Court of Auditors publishes a report, the result of joint work with the regional audit chambers, on the financial situation and management of local and regional authorities and their public establishments. Local government (Apul), which accounts for 20% of public expenditure, is concerned with meeting France's European commitments to improve its public accounts. In 2015, faced with the decline in financial assistance from the State, local authorities, taken as a whole, sought to slow down their spending rather than resort to fiscal leverage. However, faced with a stronger financial constraint in 2016, local authorities need to step up their management efforts in order to avoid a deterioration in their financial situation.
