The provision of care for persons with disabilities in medical and social institutions and services between 2010 and 2014

At the end of 2014, medical and social institutions and services offered 489,200 places in 11,250 facilities for people with disabilities. The number of places offered compared to 2010 grew only slightly faster than the total population (+5.6%).
Supply continues to grow faster in services than in establishments: for children, +15.2% in services compared with +0.4% in establishments; for adults, +10.2% in services, compared with +5.4% in establishments.
In children's institutions, day care is preferred (61% of the capacity), while for adults, boarding remains more important (44% of the capacity). The type of accommodation depends on the type of establishment and the person’s disability.
Management rates vary according to the category of the structure. The majority of staff are employed in educational, pedagogical and social functions, 17% in paramedical functions, 14% in managerial functions and 15% in general services. Seventy-three per cent of the staff, the majority of whom are employed on permanent contracts, are women, with an average age of 44.
