Emission factors for sports equipment
Description
Naturally present in the Earth's atmosphere with mainly water vapour (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane (CH4), Greenhouse Gases (GHGs) retain a large part of solar radiation and thus allow the maintenance on Earth of a global temperature conducive to the life and development of living species.
Nevertheless, since the beginning of the industrial era, economic development, historically based on the use of fossil energy sources (coal, oil, gas, etc.), has led to an increase in GHG concentrations and poses a risk of major climate changes.
The use of emission factors is the focus of any Bilan Carbone® exercise.
An emission factor (EF) is the coefficient used to determine the quantities of carbon equivalent generated from activity data such as energy consumption, the km travelled or the quantities of materials used.
