**Generalities
**Maintaining France’s rank among the major sports nations is an important axis of the state’s sporting policy, including the achievement of good results at international sporting events, including the award of medals at the Olympic Games (JO) and the Summer and Winter Paralympic Games (PJ).
With this in mind, the Sports Directorate has the data on medals obtained at the Olympic Games by French athletes. It is this data that is returned in the dataset ‘list of medals obtained by French athletes at the 2012 and 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Games’, for the Summer Olympics and JP 2012 and for the Olympics and Winter JP 2014.
**The presentation by medal
**The purpose of this dataset being to identify all medals obtained by French athletes during the Olympic Games, it is presented by medal obtained. Thus, an athlete who has won several medals in different events will be repeated as many times as he has obtained a medal. Similarly, when a team has won a title, all members of that team are listed in the table as they have all won a gold medal, even if only one title has been awarded).
