Grants awarded in 2015 by the National Centre for the Development of Sport (CNDS)

Description

Article 1 of the Sport Code (L.100-1) states that “physical and sporting activities are an important element of education, culture, integration and social life” and that “they contribute in particular to the fight against school failure and to the reduction of social and cultural inequalities, as well as to health”. The National Centre for the Development of Sport (CNDS), in its capacity as operator of the State, participates in the achievement of these objectives. Its tasks are defined by Article R411-2 of the Sports Code which provides in particular that the CNDS shall contribute to: — The development of sport by as many people as possible — Has access to high-level sport and the organisation of sporting events — Strengthening the supervision and professionalisation of sport In 2015, the investment support of the National Centre for the Development of Sport (CNDS) covered the following areas: — EUR 17.7 million for the financing of sports equipment for the city’s priority neighbourhoods and EUR 8.3 million in rural revitalisation areas. — EUR 14.4 million allocated for the financing of 24 swimming pools. — EUR 132.1 million allocated to support the development of sports associations. — EUR 4 008 of average subsidy awarded to clubs. — EUR 5.8 million to support the organisation of major international sporting events. — EUR 0.6 million for support for audiovisual production of women’s sport and sport with disabilities. — EUR 42.3 million allocated for sports employment. — EUR 17.64 million allocated to actions for women and girls, including EUR 6.21 million for practice development and access to responsibilities. — EUR 7.82 million allocated to the development of the practice of persons with disabilities. — EUR 7.42 million dedicated to the promotion of “sport/health”. The ‘Sport Equipment share’ covers the national subsidies granted by the CNDS for the construction of sports equipment of local authorities and sports associations. The operations supported under this heading mainly concern the construction and/or renovation of sports equipment where the sporting character of the equipment is guaranteed in a sustainable manner (including the realisation of equipment contributing to the development of the practice) as well as the accessibility of existing equipment. On an exceptional basis, CNDS grants may relate to the acquisition of heavy equipment necessary for sport, such as boats and aircraft. In addition to the ‘Sport Equipment share’, the CNDS grants national grants under the ‘National Part’, which covers national policies such as ‘citizen sport’ or ‘I learn to swim’ plans, conventional support to the sports movement (competition fund, CNOSF, CPSF), financing major sporting events, subsidising audiovisual productions, and innovative projects. Finally, the ‘territorial share’ covers subsidies granted at local level. Their purpose is to assist the development of sports practice for all audiences, throughout the territory, by supporting the projects of local sports associations affiliated with accredited sports federations: clubs, departmental committees and regional leagues.
