Biotope network

The long-term preservation of the functioning of ecosystems and their biodiversity requires (large-scale) coherent habitat networks. Animals need unhindered hiking corridors for their daily, seasonal or due to fluctuating environmental conditions triggered migrations. Isolated areas are impoverished in terms of species and genetic diversity.

The existing regional biotope network in the Rhine Valley and possible connections to the surrounding landscape chambers (connection between the habitats of the northern Western Alps and the northern Eastern Alps) are presented on the basis of this technical basis.

The biotope composite areas are divided into core area, corridors and interconnecting areas / treads. These areas are described in more detail in the final report ( www.vorarlberg.at/environmental protection ).
