Hambach opencast mine and the environment - Effects of a planned opencast mine in the Rhenish lignite mining district
Description
In order to make the experience gained with regard to the effects of the Hambach opencast mine on the environment accessible, the geoscientifically important chapters of the ecological report, i.e. the mining, geology and soil parts as well as water management, were published in unchanged form as a special publication of the North Rhine-Westphalia Geological Office. The chapter ‘Braunkohlenplanung als Teil der Landesplanung’ (brown coal planning as part of regional planning), which has been revised by the Office of the President of the Government of Cologne for this volume, explains in general terms the tasks of the Lignite Committee and the position of lignite in the energy programme of the Federal Government and the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.
