New municipalities as of 1 January 2016
Description
This dataset contains the list of new municipalities created on 1 January 2016.
It was created by “crowdsourcing” by several contributors, so it is not an official file.**
Its constitution was based on the decrees published in the JORF, the prefectural decrees which can be consulted on the websites of the prefectures (in the Registers of Administrative Acts) and from local sources (press, municipal websites), relying on two pages of wiki:

**Complement of 7 January 2016:**
Added a “detail” file with a line per old commune, including its INSEE code.
For the former municipalities that had been merged in the 1970s, their INSEE code of the time was used (historical source of the Official Geographical Code published by INSEE).
The INSEE code for the new municipalities was set by default to that of the capital city when it is known.
