Prostate cancer: 30 innovations, what after?
Description
We studied the dynamics of innovations related to the management of prostate cancer between 1980 and 2014, then calculated their likelihood of diffusion between 2015 and 2030. Our work is based on a semantic and then mathematical analysis of tens of thousands of scientific articles available on the American Library of Medicine (Pubmed).
Our results present the scientific publications in the form of curves available at http://datavisualisation.la-metis.fr/app/. Results are classified according to volume, year by year. The curves thus overlap from year to year, to illustrate the interest of scientists over time.
The data is first discovered by the 70 solutions adapted to each stage of cancer: from prevention to castration-resistant stage (zoom 1). The data can then be grouped according to about thirty medical techniques (zoom 2) and a dozen management approaches (zoom 3).
Finally, the data show the place taken in the scientific literature by precision medicine, adapted on a case-by-case basis, and the relatively low place of prevention for prostate cancer (zoom 4).
Compared to scientific progress, we present on the lower graph the evolution of the number of new cases each year (incidence) as well as the evolution of mortality (deaths directly related to prostate cancer). These indicators are both downwards: sharp fall in incidence since 2005 and steady decline in mortality since 1980.
