Dataset of bodies of water of metropolitan France BD Topage® version 2024
Bodies of water refer to one or more bodies of continental surface water, of natural or anthropogenic origin, of variable depth, with a minimum residence time. They may or may not be connected to the flowing hydrographic network, as the connection can be managed by humans via a hydraulic structure.
The term water body covers a number of situations commonly referred to as flooded lakes, ponds, quarries and gravel pits, dam and dyke impoundments, mine water bodies.
Pools, marshes and wetlands, neves and glaciers, harbour basins, fish ponds, storm basins, lagoons and mangroves, swimming pools and surface representations of watercourses are excluded from this definition.
Bodies of water consist of elementary surfaces, contiguous or not, permanent or not.
Note: The management of transboundary water bodies in the hydrographic reference system is as follows:
