7,860 medical students assigned to the national classification tests in 2014

At the end of the 2014 National Classification (ECN) tests, 7,860 students were assigned to an intern position. Of these, 7,755 entered for the first time in postgraduate medical studies. Of the open posts, 96 per cent were filled, only 330 posts remained vacant. In particular, general medicine filled 94 % of its positions, just less than in 2013 (95 %).
According to their ranking at the end of the tests, 34 % of students (excluding public service contracts) can choose between the thirty specialties offered, more than half between twenty and one specialties, and all between the five specialties for which positions have not been found. As in 2013, these are general medicine, occupational medicine, public health and psychiatry, added for the first time in 2014 to medical biology. Women and men show distinct preferences in the choice of specialties.
Geographical mobility continues to be important: more than half of students change from sub-division to postgraduate education. Two-thirds of them do so by choice, since they could have selected the same specialty in their original subdivision.
