Variations of direct and indirect interactions between plants along a climate gradient. An experiment on tree seedlings
Description
This work is based on experiments coupling the effect of climatic constraints, available light, vegetation competition and pressure from herbivores and pathogens. The device extends over three contrasting altitude gradients of the Alps. The germination, growth and survival of dominant forest species (quercus petraea, fagus sylvatica, abies alba, larix decidua, pinus uncinata) are monitored at 10 sites at different altitudes and distributed between the Vercors massif (external), Belledonne (intermediate) and Oisans (internal). The data collected from these experiments are used to produce a model for the regeneration of alpine forests. The scientists who participated in this work are: Georges Kunstler, Emmanuel Defossez, Pascal Tardif, Benoit Courbaud, Olivier Lasbouygues and Katja Schiffers.
