15042 Table on the evolution of the number of embassies and consulates equipped and the number of biometric visas issued
Description
Biometrics is intended to combat identity fraud through a certain identification of the persons to whom visas are issued, whether during border checks, identity checks in the national territory or in the country of origin where the visa has been issued with a return appointment to the consulate after expiry of the validity of the visa. The comparison of fingerprints at different times and locations makes it possible to follow up on certain applicants who have attracted the attention of the services concerned.
In 2013, 5 new posts went into biometric mode and biometric visas now represent nearly 2/3 of the visas issued by France. At the end of June 2014, there are still a dozen posts that issue non-biometric visas.
