15035 — Visas for Refugee Families
Description
In August 2009 there was a procedural change in the family reunification of refugees: families apply directly to diplomatic and consular posts for a long-stay visa to enter the national territory.
The decrease in applications in 2009 corresponds to this change in procedure. The increase in 2010 is explained by the catch-up effect and the number of applications from Haitian families who were granted asylum following the January 2010 earthquake.
The further very substantial increase in the issuance rate observed in 2013 affects the families of refugees from Sri Lanka, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Bangladesh, Côte d’Ivoire,
Mauritania, Senegal, Somalia, Afghanistan and Pakistan.
