15030 — Summary table of the evolution of demand and issuance for the main categories of visas
Description
French embassies and consulates abroad processed 2,840,196 visa applications in 2013 compared to 2,612,859 in 2012, an increase of + 8.7 %. The issuance rate increased by the same proportions, i.e. + 8.8 % (2 514 994 visas issued in 2013 compared to 2 311 260 in 2012); this increase mainly concerns short-stay visas (+ 7.3 %); the number of long-stay visas remained stable.
**Reading note:**
The total visa line issued is equal to the sum of the lines ‘Short-stay Schengen visa’, ‘long-stay visa’, ‘Visas DOM/TOM’ and ‘Visas issued on behalf of third countries’. The difference between visas applied for and the total number of visas issued or refused is due to the fact that a number of files are filed without any decision being taken, for example if the applicant fails to act.
