15008 — Foreign presence in OECD countries
Description
In large OECD countries, the share of foreign-born people is around 12 %. Not all people born abroad are foreign nationals. Quite a few people were born in a foreign country but with the nationality of the country of residence. This is the case in France, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands or Sweden. Foreign nationals’ access to nationality is a second reason. Thus, relatively few people born abroad gain citizenship of the country of residence in Spain or Switzerland. The age of migration then plays an important role, in addition to certain traditions.
