Map of the particularly erosion-prone steep layers
Description
On the basis of ABAG, the evaluation map of the steep layers delimits particularly erosion-prone steep layers depending on the slope inclination (S-factor) and the soil type (K-factor). The dataset on steep slopes is limited to agricultural land, sites that have a value of K*S = 1 and are at least 0.3 ha in size. A value from K*S = 1 is e.g.: a slope inclination of 15 % and a highly erosion-prone soil type (Ut3 with K-factor 0.56), widely used in the Saxon loess hilllands, a slope inclination of 21 % and a moderate erosion-prone soil type (Slu, Gr2 with K-factor 0.36) common in the Saxon middle mountains. According to these criteria, there are approximately 20.000 hectares of steep slopes on the agricultural area in Saxony, of which the largest proportion is well protected from erosion by permanent grassland. Approximately 5 200 ha of the steep slopes are located within arable land blocks and have a contiguous area of at least 0.3 ha. In the future, these sites should be protected from soil erosion by a permanent vegetation cover. Sustainable agricultural use of these sites is only possible through very comprehensive erosion protection measures (e.g. direct seeding processes).
