Introduced in France in 2004, ‘pricing by activity’ (T2A) was intended to encourage healthcare institutions to become more efficient, a concept that combines productivity and quality of care. Existing studies have focused on the economic dimension. However, the effect of T2A on the quality of care and care is a major issue for health policy. This quality is apprehended here by the readmission rate at 30 days after a surgical stay, an increase in readmissions may be a sign of a deterioration in the quality of care.
