Description
Node of the Institute of Statistics and Cartography of Andalusia. Junta de Andalucia. WFS Service of the Geographical Nomenclátor of Andalusia created in 2009 and integrated into the Spatial Data Infrastructure of Andalusia following the guidelines of the Statistical and Cartographic System of Andalusia (SECA).
The Nomenclátor Geográfica de Andalucía (NGA) is a project of the IECA, started in 2004 with the Database of Toponyms 1:10.000 (BTA10), which contains more than 232.000 toponyms and geographical identifiers classified thematically in administrative areas, population entities, hydrography, orography, heritage, infrastructure, industrial activities, extractives, services and equipment. These toponyms have been georeferenced with a point geometry and their starting source is the toponymy included in the Topographic Map of Andalusia 1:10.000 (Digital Vectorial v1:1998-2003), basic cartography of the Autonomous Community, to which other sources are being incorporated to complete or normalise the toponymy of certain types of entity. The data model adopted follows the Spanish Nomenclator Model v 1.2, recommended by the IDEE Working Group.
The NGA is a dynamic register in continuous updating made available to the SECA and the company through four synchronised web services of a public and free nature: the Geographical Name Finder and interoperable NGA download (WFS, WFS-INSPIRE) and display (WMS) services. Its purpose is to serve as a standard reference for Andalusia’s toponymy.
