However, the hallmarking requirement is not very old. In France - the country where the first official hallmark appeared - date of the ordinance of Philip the Bold in 1275.
You will find in the Gold and Silver Punch Dictionaries on the Interor.fr website the complete list presented in the form of a database that can be consulted online 24 hours a day.
The information in this database is taken from a book published in 1924 called "Dictionnaire des Poinçons" written by M. Beuque, Controller of the Guarantee in Paris.
Next to the picture or drawing, the visitor will find a detailed description of the hallmark.
