At the end of 2011, 11 600 establishments in mainland France took in young children. They offer 373,700 places, 11,300 more than in 2010 and almost 90,400 more than in 1998. Collective care establishments account for 85% of all these places (collective nurseries, day-care centres, kindergartens and multi-care establishments), family care services (family nurseries) 15%. Multi-hospitals alone offer 63% of places in collective care facilities, a share that has risen sharply in 13 years, from only 17% in 1998.
