The long decrease in appendectomy in France

In 2012, 83,400 appendectomies were performed in France. Their number has fallen sharply since the 1980s when it was estimated at over 300,000. This decrease did not concern interventions for peritonitis or appendicular abscesses, severe forms of acute appendicitis, which remained stable, but mainly other forms of appendicitis. It was more important in women and in older children and adolescents.
