However, patients do not always consult with the nearest healthcare professional for primary care. This phenomenon is particularly marked for specialists in direct access: gynecologists and ophthalmologists.
The use of a new accessibility indicator, exceeding mere distances to professionals and taking into account the local tensions between supply and demand for care, makes it possible to better understand the territorial disparities in access to care. The choice of the appeal municipality, when it is not the closest, is often related to its size or proximity to the patient’s workplace.
