Legal deposit observatory

The BnF’s task is to collect as legal deposit, when they are made available to the public, printed, graphic, photographic, sound, audiovisual, multimedia documents, whatever their technical production, editing or dissemination process, as well as software and databases, whatever the nature of their medium. The same applies to signs, signals, writings, images, sounds or messages of any kind communicated to the public by electronic means (Internet).

A summary of the trends observed by the BnF, the Legal Deposit Observatory is complemented by a focus on public publishing and administrative publications. It also offers a repository of statistical data on publishers, printers, genres, disciplines, media, etc.
