Indicators on nosocomial infections in healthcare facilities — 2011

Description

All health facilities are concerned with the fight against nosocomial infections. The seven indicators that make up the Nosocomial Infection Scoreboard in 2011 are: 1° A general indicator on the fight against nosocomial infections: the composite indicator of nosocomial infection control activities (ICALIN.2). The objective of ICALIN.2 is to organise the fight against nosocomial infections in the establishment, the means mobilised and the actions implemented; 2° A specific indicator on hand hygiene: the consumption indicator of hydro-alcoholic solutions for hand hygiene: ICSHA.2. The ICSHA.2 indicator is an indirect marker of the effective implementation of hand hygiene, a key measure to prevent many nosocomial infections; 3° A specific indicator on the operational infectious risk: the Composite Infection Control Indicator (ICA-LISO). The ICA-LISO indicator makes visible the institution’s commitment to an approach to evaluate and improve practices and control infectious risk in surgery. Three complementary indicators to better combat multi-resistant bacteria: 4° The composite index of good use of antibiotics (ICATB). The IACTB reflects the level of commitment of the health institution, in a strategy to optimise the effectiveness of antibiotic treatments. 5° The composite indicator of the diffusion of multi-resistant bacteria (ICA-BMR). The ICA-BMR makes visible the level of commitment of the health institution, in an approach aimed at controlling the spread of multi-resistant bacteria as a whole. 6° The three-year MRSA index reflects the microbial ecology of the meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (Golden Staphylococcus) of the establishment and its ability to control it through measures to prevent patient-to-patient transmission and by a policy of controlling antibiotic prescriptions. This multi-antibiotic-resistant bacterium is frequently involved in nococomial infections. 7° An aggregation of indicators for a global vision: the aggregate score. The prevention of nosocomial infections is a complex topic that requires the implementation of many complementary strategies. Only the interpretation of several indicators makes it possible to have a more comprehensive view of the level of commitment of health facilities in this area. This is why the 2011 aggregated activity score was built from the 5 composite indicators (ICALIN.2, ICSHA.2, ICA-LISO, ICATB and ICA-BMR) different depending on the type and activity of the institutions. For example, ICA-LISO only applies to health facilities with surgery, or obstetrics. For each category, the institutions concerned were divided into 5 performance classes from A to E: — class A is composed of establishments with the highest scores. These are the most advanced structures according to the indicator; — class E includes establishments with the lowest scores. These are the most late structures according to the indicator; — classes B, C and D correspond to intermediate establishments.
