The course of students in midwives school
Description
Several sources are mobilised to study students’ paths before they enter midwifery schools and during their four years of training:- the Schools survey on health professions, conducted annually for 16 health professions including paramedical training for midwifery; the scope of the 2008 Schools survey covers only students in the first year of training; the survey does not cover the school of midwives in Papeete (French Polynesia);- the SISE (Student Monitoring Information System) database, which lists all students enrolled in university; its scope includes all students enrolled in midwifery schools;- the shared directory of health professionals (RPPS) for the analysis of the demographics of medical professions in France; it lists, for each midwife practising in the French territory, data such as the place and date of graduation, age, nationality and place of practice.In 2008-2009, 3,816 students were being trained in one of the four years of the midwifery curriculum.Of the 35 French midwives schools recorded in 2008, 32 are public institutions attached to a hospital.
