Strategic noise maps for important railway lines
Description
Strategic noise maps for important railways managed by Slovenske železnice d.o.o. are drawn up in accordance with Directive 2002/49/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 25 June 2002 relating to the assessment and management of environmental noise and the Decree on the assessment and regulation of noise in the environment (Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia No 121/04). The database is a spatial representation of the noise pollution of the environment due to traffic on important railway lines, at a distance of up to 1500 m from the axis of roads.
The assessment of the noise pollution of the environment due to railway traffic is made by model calculation on the basis of the prescribed calculation method and on the basis of measurements of the total noise pollution of the environment at typical locations next to the noise sources in question. In order to calculate the noise pollution of the environment, it is necessary to know the characteristics of the operation of noise sources or the extent and distribution of their noise emissions, as well as the meteorological, relief and settlement characteristics of the area in question, including data on existing obstacles to preventing the spread of noise in the environment, such as noise barriers and dykes. The different colours on the noise maps represent different long-term average noise levels for the Ldvn indicators (full day period: Day-evening-night) and Night (period of night), in bands of 5 dB(A). In accordance with the provisions of the legislation, in Phase III of the preparation of strategic noise maps, sections of important railway lines with more than 30 000 vehicle transports per year were considered, determined on the basis of traffic data from 2017.
Strategic noise maps for important railways managed by Slovenske železnice d.o.o. are made with the purpose of assessing the exposure of residents to noise in the environment due to traffic on important railway lines and are the starting point for the preparation of measures to reduce noise from railway traffic, which are defined in detail in the operational noise protection programme.
