Areas in the Netherlands 2025
Description
In this table, a relationship is established between the municipal division (the lowest administrative level in the Netherlands) on 1 January 2025 and various subdivisions of the Dutch territory at above-municipal level. With the information from this table, figures from municipalities can be added together, so that figures at above-municipal level can also be calculated. Exceptions apply to the classification by tourist areas. In the table, click on the appropriate column heading ("Tourist Areas") to get detailed information.
The table is made up of:
- Codes and names of municipalities.
- Localisation of municipalities. Here it is indicated to which supermunicipal areas a municipality belongs.
- Size and urbanity of municipalities.
- Statistical data. This includes population and environmental density. The size and urbanity of municipalities are based on these data.
For each municipality, the table indicates which supra-municipal areas the municipality belongs to. On the other hand, the corresponding municipalities can be found in the districts, provinces and COROP areas.

None, this is a new table.
When will there be new figures?
In the autumn, a new table with the most recent area classifications for the coming year will be compiled. Not all area classifications and statistical data are already available, these will be added in the following months. The statistical data will also be added at the end of March. The data will be finalised in the summer of the year.
