Partner choice marriages; country of origin (partner) and country of birth (partner)
Description
This table contains figures on the choice of partners of marriages born in the Netherlands that were registered in the population registers of a Dutch municipality at the time of the marriage and of marriages not born in the Netherlands that were already registered with a Dutch municipality in the year before the marriage.
The data can be broken down by sex, marriage or partnership, country of birth and country of origin of the marrying, country of birth partner, country of origin of the partner and whether or not migration marriage.
CBS is moving to a new classification of the population by origin. From now on, it is more decisive where someone was born, in addition to where someone's parents were born. The word "migration background" is no longer used. The main classification Western/non-Western is replaced by a classification based on continents and common immigration countries. This classification is gradually introduced in tables and publications with population by origin.
Data available: from 2021 onwards.
Status of figures:
All figures in the table are final.
Changes as of 29 November 2024:
None, this is a new table. This table is the successor of 'Marriors; partner choice of people with a migrant background, 2001-2022'. See paragraph 3.
The following changes have been made to the discontinued table:
- The population in the table has been expanded to include persons born in the Netherlands with two parents born in the Netherlands;
- The topics have been moved to a separate tab called 'Country of origin partner / migration marriage';
- The tab ‘Migration background’ has been replaced by ‘Country of origin’;
- The countries of origin Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Turkey are allotted to continent Asia (was Europe);
- The tab ‘Generation’ has been replaced by ‘Country of birth’;
- The tab 'Country of birth of the partner' has been added;
- "Marriage or partnership" tab has been added.
When will there be new figures?
For the time being, only data from 2021 is available in the table. Previous periods will be added to the table at a later date.
In the third quarter of 2025, the figures for 2024 will be included in this publication.
