Habitats of Community Interest of Andalusia, publication 2016

REDIAM is carrying out a review of Habitats of Community Interest (HIC), from the point of view of interpretation, location, delimitation and assessment of conservation status. The interpretation of HICs and their territorial delimitation is a complex task in a wide and biodiverse territory such as Andalusia, where up to 77 different habitats have been detected. Each of them encompasses a peculiar casuistry, where it is not always easy to transfer the definition of the HIC to the territory, configure its relationship with phytosociology or detect them based on photointerpretation, the main tool available. It constitutes the current reference information on the distribution of Habitats of Community Interest in Andalusia. The publication refers to a total of 72 terrestrial habitats of interest, one more than in 2015, although subclasses have been defined (for the sake of better understanding and management) in 26 of the previous ones, which means that currently there are 111 layers of spatial information that compose it, although not all are accessible. At the end of 2016, 102 layers were published, which are included in the work. In addition, a raster with the total area covered by HIC is published indicating whether the habitat is a priority (P), non-priority (NP), is proposed as a priority for Andalusia (PP) or is proposed as a non-priority for Andalusia (PNP). To facilitate the identification of habitats in a specific place, a single layer has been generated that summarizes all the available layers. The information generated constitutes an exploitation of SIPNA (Information System of the Natural Heritage of Andalusia), where the habitats converge with SIOSEA (System of Soil Occupation of Spain in Andalusia) and the Cartography of the Vegetation of Andalusia. The generated cartography is an approximation to the location of the HICs, representing the maximum probability that they appear in the territory with the available knowledge, although this probability is not absolute or exclusive. Fieldwork done by subject matter experts can prevail over these layers. The mapping of HIC is constantly updated, so any user can propose the modification of them using the channels enabled for it (Application of vegetation: https://laboratoriorediam.cica.es/ApplicationVegetacion, and REDIAM Attends).
