Differentiated Quality Zones: Protected Designations of Origin (PDO) and Protected Geographical Indications (PGI)
Description
The maps of Differentiated Quality, generated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and Environment (MAPAMA), correspond to a cartography at national level on the families of products of the geographical areas that cover the Protected Designations of Origin (PDO) and the Protected Geographical Indications (PGI).
The Protected Designations of Origin (PDO) and Protected Geographical Indications (PGI) constitute the system used in our country for the recognition of a differentiated quality, a consequence of its own and differential characteristics, due to the geographical environment in which the raw materials are produced, the products are made, and the influence of the human factor that participates in them.
Currently in this cartography the geographical areas available for the following product families are delimited and described:
· Oils
· Olives
· Rice and Cereals
· Spirit Drinks
· Fresh Meat
· Condiments and Spices
· Sausages and Meat Products
· Fruits
· Vegetables
· Hams
· Legumes
· Honeys
· Bakery, pastry and pastry products
· Fish, Molluscs and Crustaceans
· Cheese and Butter
· Cider
· Vinegars
· Wines
The differentiated quality maps only include those products with PDO and PGI that have the approval of their regulation by the European Union.
