Potential Wetlands — Potential Wetlands in France
Description
Envelopes of potentially humid environments in 3 confidence classes. Predicting wetlands is a major challenge in designing and implementing a coherent national policy to preserve these fragile but essential ecosystems that are involved in the production of many ecosystem services. Strongly linked to the topographical situation, the occurrence of potential wetlands is mainly conditioned by geomorphology, precipitation and denivelines in the watercourse. This study tests the development and implementation of a method based on the combination of a topo-climatic index (Mérot et al., 2003) with stream deniveline to predict the spatial distribution of potential wetlands at the level of metropolitan France.
