Electricity and heat; production and deployment to energy carrier
Description
This table shows the production of electricity in the Netherlands from the various possible energy carriers. Electricity is mainly produced from the conversion of fossil fuels, biomass, nuclear energy and renewable energy. Figures are given for each energy carrier on the production of electricity and the resulting heat that is usefully used, such as for heating buildings or greenhouses. A distinction is made between central and decentralized production of electricity and heat. The centrally produced electricity and heat is generated by the power plants that are connected to TenneT's national high-voltage grid. Decentralised electricity is produced by other installations. These are set up, for example, at companies that do not have as their main purpose the production of electricity or heat (e.g. greenhouse horticulture companies). Other installations also include wind energy, solar energy and hydropower.

Status of figures
All figures up to 2021 are final. Figures for 2022 and 2023 are further provisional.

Changes as of November 2023:
The figures for the years 2015-2020 have been revised. The revisions relate to the introduction of an improved analytical method in 2022, which has been rolled back to previous years. Furthermore, data from a limited number of companies have been revised on the basis of new insights.
The revisions are generally small and always deviate less than 1 percent from the respective annual totals.
The figures for 2021 and 2022 have been updated.

Changes as of 15 December 2022:
The figures for 2015 to 2019 have been revised. These are relatively small adjustments as a result of improved insights into the energy balance of individual companies. The adjustments in the relevant years are on average 0.1 percent of the total electricity production; 0.9 percent of the total heat production and 0.2 percent of the total deployment. As a result, the figures are again fully consistent with the energy balance revised in December 2021.
The figures for 2020 have been definitively given the status, the more detailed provisional figures for 2021 have been adjusted.
