Personal budget (pgb); budget allocated and spent
Description
This table shows the total amount of personal budget (pgb) allocated per year by care offices to persons and that is maximum available for the self-purchase or hiring of long-term care at the expense of the General Exceptional Medical Expenses Act (AWBZ, until 2015) and the Long-term Care Act (Wlz, from 2015). In addition, the table contains the total amount actually spent on AWBZ/Wlz care in a year by budget holders (from their pgb granted), including settlements with old years. The part of the PGB that the budget holder has not spent on care must be paid back to the care office. As of 2015, long-term care is financed by several laws: the Long-term Care Act (Wlz), the Social Support Act (Wmo) 2015, the Health Insurance Act (Zvw) and the Youth Act. From 2015 onwards, this table only follows the number of persons who have been granted a PGB at the expense of the Wlz. The PGB is a subsidy scheme whose ceiling is set annually by the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport.

This table follows the AWBZ-financed pgb until 2015 and from 2015 only the Wlz-financed pgb. Pgb financed by the Wmo 2015, Zvw and Jeugdwet will not be included from 2015.
Status of figures:
The figures for 2023 are provisional, the remaining figures are final.
Changes as of 22 March 2024:
- The provisional figure on the allocated personal budget 2023 has been adjusted.
- Figures for 2022 have been finalised unchanged.
When will there be new figures?
The figure on the 2023 personal budget spent will be published in Q4 2024.
