Environmental Ordinance - Drilling-free zone
Description
In drilling-free zones, clay layers that protect the underlying groundwater must not be pierced. This is laid down in the Provincial Environmental Ordinance Gelderland (PmG). It is also forbidden to use the soil as a source of energy (for example, for the storage of cold or hot water). The Provincial Executive may grant an exemption for this. The exemption rules state that the clay layer must not be damaged and that the use of substances must not contaminate groundwater. The use of soil as an energy source is also prohibited in water catchment and groundwater protection areas. No exemption can be granted for this. The province and its partners aim to protect groundwater as a source of drinking water supply. This file was adopted by the Provincial Council on 15 November 2023 and will enter into force on 1 January 2024 under the Environment Act.
