Preserved brick areas and ensembles in Hamburg

Description

The implementation of the requirements of the Energy Saving Ordinance EnEV of the Federal Government and the Hamburg Climate Protection Ordinance also changed the appearance of the old building stock by the facade insulation carried out in the course of this. Hamburg’s architectural heritage is characterised by the brick areas, especially those of the 1920s and 1930s. In order to develop ways of preserving the appearance of these areas – for example by means of special additional support for a strap cladding by state subsidies – a mapping of the preserved brick stock was created as a first step. In particular, brick-shaped residential areas (residential quarters, housing estates and building ensembles) were recorded in storey buildings with their surroundings. For single-family houses and terraced houses, the survey focuses on settlements of the 20s and 30s and earlier. But also areas of the 50/60s with brick embossing of minor importance were mapped (urban location, their urban and architectural design and/or by facade insulation with “straps”).
