Metadata glossary

Description

The metadata vocabulary contains terms and expressions necessary for describing the datasets. The glossary is also suitable for selecting the titles that appear in the user interfaces. The glossary is structured according to the entity-ratio structure defined by the RDA text and the FRBR conceptual model. The use of vocabulary terms consolidates the vocabulary of descriptive metadata, and at the same time harmonises descriptiveness in order to promote the effectiveness of information retrieval. The purpose of the glossary is also to facilitate the production of metadata by compiling the vocabulary and expressions needed for the description and to clarify related concepts. The glossary contains terms and expressions that comply with both the ISBD and RDA descriptive rules. Terms and expressions used only in one of the two sets of rules are marked separately. The glossary does not contain vocabulary describing the subject matter of the work, e.g. descriptors.
