Description
The dataset lignite quarries shows the nine lignite quarries (surface mining) that the Netherlands has known. In the 20th century, lignite mining took place on a modest scale in the Netherlands. Triggered by the high coal prices during the First World War, it became lucrative for some entrepreneurs to take the lignite into mining. In these areas lignite was mined for a short time during and immediately after the First World War.
