Description
The load-bearing capacity map identifies areas that are highly settlement-sensitive and extremely settlement-sensitive for South Holland concepts. Carrying capacity indicates the degree to which the substrate is sensitive to settlement, i.e.: the lowering of the ground level. The soil composition and the use of space are decisive for this; the weight of structures and the abstraction of groundwater increases the likelihood of settlement. The carrying capacity of sand is known as firm, of clay as sensitive and of peat as weak. Given that Zuid-Holland consists of more than three quarters of slack land, the province is largely above average sensitive to settlement compared to other provinces.
